Consisting of 32 scrapbooks, 1928-1995, 2 volumes of financial records, 1946-1948 and 1951-1960, and one volume of minutes, 1941-1942, re benevolent works of the club, such as the Easter Seals program, and the social and education aspects for its members, such as the committees for appreciation of art, music, and literature; collection documents various campaigns for civic improvements, city beautification, historic preservation, education, etc.; many volumes include biographical information on members, and various concerns of the Columbia community. Scrapbooks, 1928-1939, 1941-1942, and 1952-1995, documenting special campaigns and activities include "The Steps We've Taken" (1949-1974) re Easter Seal campaign; "Committee on Gerontology" (1960); "Community Improvement" (1960-1962); "Operation Big Decision, Shall I Smoke?" (1964); and "Seventy Years of Service: 1925-1995," re 1994-1995 retrospective history yearbook. Scrapbook, 1929-1939, includes long essay re student life at Barhamville (published in State, 12 May 1929), written by a graduate of South Carolina Female Collegiate Institute; activities during Great Depression-era include clippings, correspondence, etc., re visit by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to Columbia sponsored by the Woman's Club, 28 Oct. 1938, during which she spoke at the Township Auditorium in an address broadcast by WIS Radio. Scrapbook, 1941-1942, documents contributions made to war effort on the home front; yearbook cites club's efforts to provide various social events for soldiers, work against rent inflation, Red Cross membership drives, etc.; includes brochures, programs, and "WPA home hospitality register," a blank form from the WPA Recreation office as part of a program in which families entertained and provided soldiers with home-cooked meals. Volume of minutes, May 1941 - May 1942, with correspondence bound in with minutes includes letter, 18 July 1941, from architects Lafaye, Lafaye and Fair re expenses on bid for construction of the organization's club house at 1703 Blossom St.
